Man United officials jet in to watch £40m-rated defender

Manchester United are reportedly weighing the option of signing Fiorentina star Nikola Milenkovic in January.

Sky Sports reports that Jose Mourinho has sent scouts to watch the defender this season ahead of a possible transfer in January. Milenkovic is seen as a potential long-term option for the right-back position that has the likes of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young who over 30.

New signing Diogo Dalot has struggled with injuries and United have identified Milenkovic as a better fit than the youngster. Milenkovic has impressed since his move to Fiorentina last season from Serbia.

Reports in Italy claim that the Italian side have placed an asking price of £40 million for the 21-year-old. Bayern Munich are also rumoured to have entered the race for the right back and this could make things interesting.

United have been in need for a new right-back as Ashley Young and Valencia have been playing as makeshift right-backs in the past few seasons.

Milenkovic would be a good fit due to his combative style and ability to drive into the opponent’s by-line to deliver excellent crosses.

This January transfer window is a perfect opportunity for Jose to bolster his squad, and this transfer could well happen as the Portuguese seek to remedy a bad start to the campaign.

Milenkovic has been an ever-present for Fiorentina this season netting 2 goals in all competitions.
