Manchester United interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly close to making his first signing as United coach. PSV forward Steven Bergwijn is reported to be close to a move to Old Trafford according to news from England.
United have been looking to bolster their attacking options in January and Bergwijn is viewed by the club as a perfect fit to the club’s philosophy. Solsjaer sees current wingers Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial as centre-forwards and wants a winger to complement the pair. Bergwijn has been a sensation for PSV this season, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists in 16 appearances.
The forward is valued at around £25million and United are expected to make an official bid for the player in the coming days. The Red Devils have competition in the form of Premier League rival Liverpool who are interested in the 21-year-old.
Solskjaer has sent scouts to watch PSV next two matches against FC Emmen and Groningen before giving the green light on the transfer. PSV are reluctant to lose the winger midway in the season but would be powerless to stop an exit if the right price is offered.
United next face Brighton in the Premier League at Old Trafford as they seek to continue this run of victories.
