Manchester United go cold on Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane

According to recent reports by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Manchester United have withdrawn from the chase to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

The 24 years old French professional footballer has been linked with a move to Manchester United since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson while he was still playing for Lens but he opted to sign for Real Madrid which had Jose Mourinho managing the club then.

Manchester United revisited their interest to sign the Frenchman after Jose Mourinho succeeded Louis Van Gaal, but have not given up on the chase for him amidst concerns about his physicality and injury.

Though ex Manchester United player Louis Saha in a recent interview stated that a player of Raphael Varane’s potential is needed in the current United side but it seems Jose Mourinho thinks otherwise after Lindelof was added to strengthen the defense of the Red Devils during the summer transfer window.

Varane’s current contract with Madrid runs out in the summer of 2020 so the Spanish giants are in particular hurry to sell their star but it remains to be seen whether he could be sold if Man United manage to place a mammoth sum on the table for his signature.
