Manchester United striker drops ‘quit notice’

Belgium all time scorer Romelu Lukaku has revealed his intent on quitting the national team in 2 years time. Lukaku revealed this in an interview with Business Insider discussing his career for both club and national team

The 25-year-old intends to retire after the euro 2020 tournament and is confident that the golden generation of Belgium can sign off with the European trophy. Lukaku admitted that he is yet to hit his peak but could be close to that in two years time.

The Belgium striker said that he would be ready to hand over the reins to the younger generation after the Euro 2020.  This means that Lukaku would not be eligible to play for in Qatar 2022 and would be stuck on 4 world cup goals.

Lukaku has become a mainstay in the Belgium National team scoring a total of 40 goal which is remarkable since he is just 25 years old.

The powerful forward is also a pivotal component of United and scored over 20 goals in his debut season for United following a £75 million move from Everton last summer.

United fans would be hopeful that she keeps to his promise as this would enable the striker to spend his peak years without the distraction of national teams engagements.
