Manchester United team news ahead of FC Basel Game

Ashley Young could get his first taste of first team action in four months while the duo of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof will start for Manchester United in tonight’s UEFA Champions league clash with FC Basel.

Marouane Fellaini is also expected to feature having overcome the Calf complaint that saw him dropped for the trip to Stoke City last Saturday.

Left back Luke Shaw has however been left out of the squad that will face the Swiss Champions despite training with the first team on Monday.The former Southampton man has not tasted first team action since he was hauled-off in last season’s Premier League match against Swansea City on April 30.

Goalkeeper David De Gea will also be in-between the sticks ahead of Argentine shotstopper Sergio Romero who condemned the Spaniard to three appearances in Europe last season.

United boss, Jose Mourinho is expected to again go for his preferred 4-2-3-1 which has seen the Red Devils top the league standings for five weeks, scoring 12 goals in the process.

Here’s a rundown of Manchester United’s probable line-up for tonight’s clash at Old Trafford;

Goalkeeper:

David De Gea as expected will retain his place having conceded just two goals in five matches, keeping three clean sheets in the process while Sergio Romero will be ready to deputize.

Defence:

Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof are confirmed for the centre back positions while Antonio Valencia could retain his right back spot with Matteo Darmian also filling the left back position.

Midfield:

Paul Pogba is expected to be joined in the central midfield by Captain Michael Carrick who will be making his first appearance of the season.

The trio of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial are also expected to return to the starting eleven having featured from the bench against Stoke. Martial and Lingard could operate from the wings while Juan Mata could be given the attacking midfield role.

Attack:

The man of the moment, Romelu Lukaku is also expected to lead the line for Mourinho again and continue his goal scoring form.
