Maurizio Sarri asks Marina Granovskaia to sign £45m Zappacosta replacement

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is reported to have informed the club’s board of his wish to sign Napoli ace Elseid Hysaj as a replacement for Zappazosta

Zappacosta is expected to join Lazio according to reports in Italy.

This would leave the Blues a man down in defence and Sarri wants to replace the Italian defender with Hysaj. Hysaj was one of the players linked with Chelsea last summer but Napoli inserted a clause in Sarri’s contract which blocked a transfer to the club.

The Italian side were angry over the transfer of Jorginho and placed a clause making it impossible for the club to sign any other Napoli player last summer.

Zappacosta has failed to impress since his £23 million move from Torino in the summer of 2017 and is reportedly surplus to requirements. The Evening Standard claims that the 26-year-old is in advanced negotiation with Lazio over a loan move. According to the report, Lazio have the option to make the transfer permanent for £13million.

Sarri intends to use the Zappacosta fee to fund a move for Hysaj, who he believes is a better fit for Sarri-ball. Hysaj was one of the regulars under Sarri in Napoli and has developed into a quality defender in Italy.

Napoli are said to be bracing for an exit, as Hysaj has refused to sign an extension to his current contract which runs until 2021. Notwithstanding, Chelsea are reported to be delaying the exit of Zappacosta until the club can finalize the signing of Hysaj in January.
