Maurizio Sarri confirms powerful midfielder will play for Chelsea this season



According to reports from the Telegraph English Prodigy Ruben Loftus-Cheek is staying at Stamford Bridge this summer after falling in favour with new manager Maurizio Sarri.  The Italian has decided to retain the midfielder after letting Bakayoko depart to AC Milan on a season-long loan.

Loftus-Cheek has been regarded as the next breakout prodigy at Stamford Bridge for a long time but has yet to establish himself at the club. he went on loan last season to crystal palace where his performance led to a call-up to the England World Cup squad.

The addition of Mateo Kovacic on transfer deadline day has seen a saturated situation in the midfield with 5 players fighting for the last midfield position alongside Kante and Jorginho. Fabregas, Barkley Drinkwater,  Loftus-Cheek and Kovacic are currently vying for the position.

German side Schalke O4 had been touted to be interested in the 22-year-old who cut short his holiday to resume training with the Blues. Loftus-Cheek has previously spoken of his desire to impress Maurizio Sarri and become a mainstay at Stamford Bridge.

Loftus-Cheek played in the opening game for Chelsea entering as a second-half sub in the Blues 3-0 defeat of Huddersfield.
