Mesut Ozil to Wenger : Give me the number 10 Jersey and i might sign a new deal

German international Mesut Ozil who has refused to extend his contract at the Emirates has told manager Arsene Wenger he could sign a new deal if he can be given the number 10 Jersey worn by his teammate Jack Wilshere as part of his contract demands to stay at the club beyond next summer according to English publication the Sun.

The German playmaker could leave on a free next summer and can start discussing potential exit as early as January with interested suitors if he doesn’t put pen to paper, he currently wears the number 11 jersey, but feels the iconic number 10 jersey could be a major boost to his brand as he currently wears the number 10 jersey for his national side after Lukas Podolski retired and also uses the m10_official as his Instagram handle.

The former Real Madrid midfielder has had a stop-start season to the new campaign and has been criticized both by the fans and club legends, but he reminded the fans of his qualities after his man of the match display against the Toffees at Goodison park last month having scored a goal and providing an assist. Although, he was found wanting against Premier League leaders Manchester City on Sunday as he offered less going forward, but if tying him down on a new contract involves an increment on his initial £150,000-a-week wages and getting his preferred number 10 from Jack Wilshere, Wenger must find a way to meet his contracts demands without causing a dressing room hiccup.

English international Jack Wilshere has had a brilliant start to the season since returning from injury and has been impressive both in the Carabao Cup and the Europa Cup but has been limited to just two appearances from the bench in the Premier League.  The 29-year-old taking Jack Wilshere’s jersey number might not go down well with the Englishman but will understand keeping one of the best players at the club it’s in the club interest.
