Not Benzema: Arsenal hoping to sign Real Madrid forward

Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign Lucas Vasquez from Real Madrid, according to reports from Sky Sports. The Spanish winger is highly rated at the club, but is behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Isco in the pecking order.

This has led to an increase in speculation that he could leave the Santiago Bernabeu in search of first team football.  Arsenal are keeping tabs with the situation and are reportedly ready to make a move to bring the winger to the Emirates.

The promise of regular playing time and increased importance in the team could tempt the 26-year-old into making a switch to London. The report claims that Arsene Wenger is a huge admirer of the Spaniard’s speed and scoring ability, having watched the winger net eight goals in just 10 starts for the Galacticos this season.

The Gunners are apparently resigned to losing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester city and are keen to secure adequate replacements before his departure.

Though Vasquez is not regarded as a like for like replacement for the Chilean, his ability could help to minimize the missing influence a player of Sanchez’s calibre would create.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Thomas Lemar, although Monaco have issued a statement saying they are not keen on selling the 22-year-old.
