Official Update on Riyad Mahrez to Liverpool

Leicester Manager Claude Puel revealed in his pre-match interview that there is no transfer dealing happening at the moment for Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian international has been linked to Arsenal and Liverpool as replacement for United bound Sanchez and Coutinho who joined Barcelona in January.

Puel had previously stated that the Algerian was worth about £100 million in transfer fee if he was to leave Leicester, but wants to keep the winger in the club.

The 26year old had submitted a transfer request in the summer to force an exit from Leicester, but a move did not materialise with most clubs unwilling to match Leicester valuation of the player.

Puel in the press conference praised the player but refused to end speculation of the player leaving this January with the coach stating that “It is always the same thing, my response is the same. I am happy with him and he is enjoying his football and playing, this is the most important thing.”

Puel also spoke of Mahrez commitment to the club “We can see in his performances in the games. He is a very good player and he likes this club, he likes his team-mates and there is a good feeling with him.

He emphasised the need to manage the transfer period properly, “At this moment nothing is close to happening.  For me and all the players, always this period is difficult for the players and the clubs, but it is important to manage it right,” He said.

Riyad Mahrez has two years left in his contract and has been in good form this season scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in twenty seven appearances.

Riyad Mahrez would be a quality signing for either Arsenal or Liverpool as he would add unpredictability and goals to both sides. He would also be eligible to play in the Champions league or Europa League. It would be beneficial to Leicester if they can keep their Star player till the summer before cashing on the player.
