Personal terms agreed, Arsenal to announce second summer signing today

Arsenal are set to announce the signing of Sampdoria Ace Torreira. The deal taking the 22-year-old to London has reportedly been agreed with the player.

The player was initially expected to be confirmed as an Arsenal player at the end of the World Cup. However, reports from Uruguay tabloid Embajadores del Gol claims the transfer has been pushed forward and the player is expected to sign for the Emirates outfit today.

His agent according to the report is set to travel to Russia, where he would present the contract for the player to append his signature.

Arsenal have been the frontrunner for the sturdy midfielder throughout the summer and it looks like they are close to getting the player to commit to north London. There have been rumours of Liverpool and Napoli’s interest in Torreira but nothing concrete has materialised yet.

It is believed that the player has a buyout clause of £22 million which his club wants paid in full. This has led to some delay in the negotiation with Arsenal preferring to pay the release clause in installments.

Moreover, Sampdoria director Carlo Osti recently affirmed this to potential suitors in an interview with Italian tabloid Rai sport, “Torreira has a €25m (£22m) release clause, everyone knows that,” he said.

Torreira is part of the Uruguay squad as he prepares to feature in his second world cup.
