Sensational reports coming from Italy claims that Gonzalo Higuain has submitted a transfer request as he looks to force a move to Chelsea. According to CalcioMercato, the Argentine hitman is keen to make a move to London to be reunited with former manager Maurizio Sarri.

The 31-year-old future has been the subject of speculations in the past few weeks as reports claim that Chelsea have begun negotiations with both AC Milan and Juventus over a transfer.  Higuain is currently on an €18 million a season loan at Milan from Juventus with an option to make permanent for €36million.

This clause further complicates things as the Milan side are obligated to pay the loan fee in full but Chelsea are confident of negotiating a deal.

The 31-year-old failed to score in Milan’s 2-0 victory over Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia.  After the match, Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso was quizzed about the forward’s future. He replied in an uncertain manner and insisted that the club cannot force the player to remain at Milan if he wants out.

‘ Higuain? We have a good understanding and we are frank between one another. As I have said, it is normally the player who chooses where he wants to go. You can’t force someone to stay on so let’s see. Higuain is currently a Milan player and we are happy about this but let’ see what the future holds for him. Higuain seems happy here but let’s see…’.

Milan are currently in Saudi Arabia preparing for the Italian Super Cup clash with rivals Juventus on Wednesday. Milan chiefs are expected to hold talks over the transfer of the Argentine international in the next few days.

This transfer looks unlikely to be resolved soon and could run until the final days of the transfer window.
