Jorginho has emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Blues this summer.

The 26-year-old was revealed to be closing in on a transfer to Chelsea. Napoli Chief Aurelio De Laurentiis had told reporters during the unveiling of Carlo Ancelotti that there is an agreement in principle to sell the playmaker to Chelsea.

This news is a surprise to many as it was initially reported that Manchester City were closing in on the player.

However, Chelsea have emerged frontrunners to sign the Italian international and sources close to the player claims he has accepted a 5-year contract worth £102,000 weekly. Jorginho is be expected to slot seamlessly into the first team. It is believed incoming coach Maurizio Sarri would employ a double pivot of Jorginho alongside midfield dynamo N’golo Kante.

A medical has been planned for the 26-year-old midfielder this week and the player is expected to be Maurizio Sarri first signing as Blues Boss.

Chelsea are also expected to confirm the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as the new head coach. The 59-year-old tactician had been widely expected to take over the hot seat at the London club. However, a series of contract tussle with former employers Napoli had caused the confirmation to be delayed.

Though news report from England yesterday confirmed the sacking of Chelsea coach Antonio Conte paving the way for Sarri confirmation this week.
