Almost forgotten man Matty Virtue has returned to training after suffering an injury setback in November while playing for the U23.

The midfielder and captain was side-lined with an ankle ligament injury after hobbling off in the win against Leicester in late November.

The captain was in scintillating form before the unfortunate injury lay off but he was however recently pictured training with Liverpool senior team at Melwood.

Matty, 21, had an impressive loan spell while at Notts County in the second half of last season where his 15 appearances contributed to the club finishing fifth and involved in the League 2 play offs.

His return from loan to the Liverpool second-string outfit from Notts County has seen the midfielder score 6 goals in 7 appearances before his absence due to injuries.

The Liverpool U23 outfit have only lost ones in the campaign this season after five draws and three wins so far.

But the captain’s healthy return was a thing of joy for the second outfit manager Neil Critchley. Speaking ahead of Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Brighton, Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com:

“Matty had a little setback with an illness he picked up just before Christmas but he has been out and doing a lot of conditioning work and will be phased back into training during the next week to 10 days.”

His return to the side is a breath of fresh air as another loan deal is on the card for the goal scoring midfielder to garner more experience.
