The January transfer window has just opened and many Arsenal fans are hopeful of a few signings that could propel their team to the top four and challenge for trophies.

Here are three players realistic transfer targets for the Gunners.

Jonny Evans

The Westbrom defender would be an ideal signing to the Gunners troubled defence. He is be a tried and trusted option for Arsenal , as he has vast experience in the Premier League with numerous trophies during his time at Manchester United.

The Northern Irish defender is comfortable on the ball and would have no problems in adjusting to the Gunners quick style of play. Evans also adds height and tenacity to the Gunners back four which has been a problem since the absence of Per Mertesacker.

Arsenal would face major competition from Manchester City for his services . Evans won’t cost too much since he has six months left in his contract a fee of around £18 million should be enough to prise away the defender.

Ryan Betrand

Betrand has been very consistent with his performances since his switch from Chelsea to Southampton. The English left-back would serve as a good competition to SeadKolasinac for the left back position. Bertrand would add speed and set pieces abilities to the Arsenal team.

The Southampton defender is a proven performer at highest level and would give Arsene Wenger much options as he can slot into left midfield and play wing back positions effectively.

Betrand won’t come cheap but a fee worth £40 million should be enough to prize the left back.

Riyad Mahrez:

Mahrez needs no introduction to most Arsenal fans as the former PFA player of the year has consistently tormented Arsenal over the years. Mahrez would bring a wow factor to the Arsenal midfield and energize the attack with his ability to beat players.

He would be a good player to complement Sanchez and eventually replace the out of contract Arsenal striker. Mahrez would bring goals and assist to the team and would be a statement signing for the Gunners.

The Algerian Star has repeatedly stated his intention to leave Leicester for the past two seasons and would be willing to come to the London club.

A fee worth £30 million should be enough to sign the Algerian and at age 26 the player is still yet to reach his peak.
