Three replacements for Mesut Ozil

The potential departure of German international Mesut Ozil who has refused to extend his contract at the Emirates beyond this season has rocked the Gunners so far this season and it’s high time the north London club started making contingency plans to replace the influential midfielder.

However, the German midfielder has been linked heavily with a move to Manchester United and Catalan giants Barcelona, and the former Real Madrid midfielder is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club of choice in the January transfer window if he doesn’t put pen to paper to extend his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

With the German refusing to extend his contract the Gunners might be willing to sell the World Cup winner for a cut-price deal rather than allowing him leave on a free next summer. Below are three alternatives to replace the German international;

French international Nabil Fekir who has had a sensational start to the new campaign and has stepped up for French side Olympique Lyon in the absence of former Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette who joined the Gunners for a record £52 million move to the Emirates in the summer and would definitely be a perfect replacement for Mesut Ozil due to his versatility, creativity and his eye for goal.

The 24-year-old has scored 12 goals in 15 appearances for the Les Gones in all competitions and the Gunners might have to pay big to sign him with reports in France believing he could be sold in the region of £60 million if he maintains his early season form.

German midfielder Pascal Gross is also an option to replace Ozil, he joined newly promoted side  Brighton and Hove from German side Ingolstadt for an undisclosed fee in the summer on a four-year deal. The 26-year-old has been a revelation in the Premier League scoring three goals and providing five assists and could be a suitable replacement for the German midfielder.

Although, he might not be the marquee signing the fans are expecting but with the former Ingolstadt midfielder boasting of a statistics only bettered by the likes of David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, it shows he is ready for a move to a bigger club.

Finally, American midfielder Christian Pulisic is a modern-day number ten and wouldn’t find it hard to slot into the Gunners midfield. The 19-year-old is a regular for both club and country and he is often deployed as a winger but can also play as an attacking midfielder.

He his known for his creativity, dribbling abilities, versatility and his ability to shoot from outside the box. However, signing the youngster won’t be easy with his contract set to expire in 2020 and could be the ideal replacement for Mesut Ozil with age still on his side.
