With recent reports linking Tottenham’s elite players with a move away from the club. It is however the club’s most prized asset that should be kept away from the tentacles of top clubs ready to move in at the first sign of discontent from the former Argentina defender.
The ex- Southampton manager despite working with the least considerable budget among the top six has remarkably forged an impressive team known for its high energy and dynamism. Pochettino has also been widely applauded over his emphasis on youth development, nurturing a host of youngsters into the first team to complement the club’s relatively low budget.
Harry Kane been the most impressive amongst the players under the Argentine’s tutelage. The English forward is now considered among the best forwards in Europe and became the first player recently to score
20 or more goals for three consecutive seasons in the Premier League, Dele Alli was also brought into the fold by Pochettino and his dynamic consistent performances almost pushed Spurs into winning the league
two seasons ago. Kieran Tripper, Eric Dier and Danny Rose are also amongst a host of players who have developed rapidly under the influence of Pochettino’s man-management skills.
The 4-2-3-1 formation implemented by the Argentine has turned the north London side from a post- Bale mediocre side into potential title challengers and consistent top four chasing side. His tactics are though with flaws. His high intensity demands can make the players jaded, leading to exhaustion and subsequent injuries which could derail the morale of an alarmingly thin squad.
There are undeniably areas for improvements in the squad. Their record against the top sides in the premier league under his tenure has been wretched. His team also tends to succumb under pressure, raising doubts about the mental strength of such a young squad. However, the Argentine is a visionary and is all too aware of the shortcomings of his squad.
His aspirations for the future are aligned with the philosophy of the club and thus should be awarded with an extension of his contract to distract suitors from luring an outstanding young coach who arguably hasn’t attained his peak.
