Unai Emery tells Arsenal board to sign £26m star defender

Arsenal are reportedly targeting Real Betis ace, Aissa Mandi, as the club looks to bring in defensive reinforcements. According to ElDesmarque, Arsenal boss Unai Emery is keen on Mandi as he wants a quality centre back in January.

The Gunners have endured their annual injury crisis at the back with Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin both suffering season-ending injuries. Captain Laurent Koscielny just came back from a long-term injury and at 33 years is a short term for the defence.

Mandi has been impressive for Real Betis this season and reportedly has a buy-out clause of £26 million. Betis have informed the Gunners that they would only listen to offers that match the buy-out clause.

This situation is a problem for Arsenal as the club is currently short of funds to complete permanent signings in January. Emery revealed that the club can only bring in players on loan and the London club could make a loan move with an option to buy.

Mandi has featured regularly for Betis in this campaign and has appeared in 20 matches in the League. The Algerian international can also play both full-back positions and he would add more options to the Gunners backline.

It remains to be seen if this deal would go through before the end of the January transfer window.
