Wayne Rooney’s message to Paul Pogba, revealed

United have not gotten to the best of starts with the Old Trafford outfit losing to Brighton in their second game of the season leading to widespread criticism. They next face Tottenham on Monday and many believe that Paul Pogba is the key to United having a good season.

Pogba and Mourinho have had a controversial relationship so far with the player yet to find the consistency levels needed at United. This looked to have been restored when the French man was handed the armband in the first game of the season against Leicester as Pogba had a man of the match performance capping it with a goal.

However, the dire showing from the French ace in the 3-2 defeat to Brighton revealed that there remains a problem on how to get the best from the player. United legend Wayne Rooney has waded into the debate and believes that Pogba must prove himself at Old Trafford.

According to Rooney most times, Mourinho takes the flak for his poor performances but the player has to step up to match his big-name reputation. He also stated that United title hopes lie on how well Mourinho can squeeze that extra quality from the world cup winner.

Paul is a fantastic player and he has to do it for himself I think,” he told CNN World Sport, per the Sun.

Paul Pogba scored a late penalty against Brighton but Man United still lost 3-23 “You hear a lot of people saying Jose Mourinho needs to get the best out of him, but for Paul, he needs to do it for himself and prove he’s at that level to help Man United. “If they’re going to win the title, he’ll be the main player in terms of them doing that, I’m sure.”

Pogba would do well to listen to the advice of Rooney as the club’s record scorer also had a similar fallout with Sir Alex Ferguson before putting aside to win the Premier League title 5 seasons ago.

Tottenham lies ahead for Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday and all eyes will be on the French maestro to see what he can conjure.
